Pirates of the Carribean 2 was the first movie we've gone out to see in Switzerland. We ended up getting third row seats, which turned out to be ok. It’s crazy the way you get assigned seats. The earlier you buy them, the further back you’ll be. I guess the Swiss consider sitting further back better. If you don't sit in your assigned seat--watch out! Our friends Brenda and Stew went to a movie recently and there were only 10 people in the theater. But they were all crowded next to each other in their "assigned" seats. So Brenda and Stew decided to move to some other seats. Boy did they get yelled at by the Swiss movie guards for not sitting in their seats despite it being 90% empty! The Swiss like their rules. And they like to correct people that fail to follow them even more.
Anyhow, thanks to prior knowledge and a full theater, we were prevented from any correctional lecture at our movie. It was the cleanest theater I’ve ever seen--no sticky floors or garbage anywhere. Each seat was numbered. People ate tiny bags of popcorn and drank beer. The movie was in English with German and French subtitles. It was fun to try to read some of the German occasionally. The weirdest thing was they stopped the movie mid-sentence and closed the curtain and turned on the lights. We thought something was wrong, but everyone was getting up like it was normal. So I guess they have an intermission, everyone went to get more ice cream, popcorn and beer. It makes sense when you think of it. Correctional lectures aside, the thing the Swiss excel at most is making money. So why not, have another beer. And sit back, relax, and enjoy second half.
